Seniors Golf – A Way Of Living Life To The Full

The Seniors section of Royal Winchester Golf Club is open to all male members aged 60 or over. We have a full and varied calendar of events to offer you in 2019.

During the Summer the Seniors will play a total of 16 clubs from Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Berkshire both at home and away. We will play our annual Triangular competition against Hockley and South Winchester, where each club hosts a round, and the Quadrilateral against Marlborough, Salisbury and South Wilts and New Forest golf clubs.

All four clubs in the Quadrilateral were founded in 1888 and this year the event will be hosted by Salisbury & South Wilts. RWGC won the Quadrilateral in 2017 and successfully defended the Triangular in 2018.

The Seniors also participate in a Winter League competition against Corhampton, Hockley, South Winchester and Alresford golf clubs.

As well as inter-club matches, the Seniors’ section offers members the opportunity to play in seven qualifying trophy competitions, with a chance to become overall winner of the Maurice Elsworthy Order of Merit. We have a Singles and a Pairs knock-out competition and an annual match against the Ladies.

In May we will be holding our Seniors’ Invitation, which all members are encouraged to participate in, and hosting our Seniors’ Open in July.

All of our matches and competitions are open to players with a current handicap.

Finally, in addition to other similar events around the club, the Seniors have two regular roll-ups each week. Gathering together at 10.30 every Tuesday and Thursday morning throughout the year, the roll-ups offer members the opportunity to play relaxed, yet competitive, golf and meet and make new friends.

The RWGC Seniors are always looking for new and existing club members to join our happy and welcoming section. You can join us by paying a one-off £1.00 fee to Ray Leighton, Seniors Secretary (rwgcsnrsec@gmail.com).

If you are 60 or over and want to know more, then please contact either Richard Stones, Seniors’ Captain (rwgcsnrcap@gmail.com), or Tony Glanville, Seniors’ Vice Captain (rwgcsnrvcap@gmail.com).
