Academy Membership

The golf academy membership is designed for adults who are new to the game, occasional golfers or lapsed golfers who are interested in playing golf and joining Royal Winchester Golf Club. 

The aim of our academy is to guide you through all aspects of the game of golf, from golf swing mechanics to golf course etiquette.  Golf is a great game, not only from a technical side but also for the social and well-being element.  Our academy aims to help you mix with other golfers, in a similar position, creating friendships for the future and golfing buddies that can spur you on along the way.

We recognise that becoming a member of a golf club and playing the golf course for the first time can sometimes be a daunting prospect.  Our academy is designed to help you ‘find your feet’ at the club, acquire the right skills to become a golfer and most importantly, enjoy the game of golf.

The Clubhouse

As an academy member you can enjoy food and drink in our newly refurbished clubhouse, which captures stunning views across the golf course. 

The Restaurant area of our Clubhouse is welcoming and spacious, the perfect setting for a Sunday Carvery with family, a get together with friends or a private celebratory event.   Enjoy 15%  off food in the Restaurant with your membership card. 

A warm welcome awaits you from our friendly team. They will do everything possible to ensure that your thirst and appetite are fully satisfied. The bar provides a wide range of drinks, both hot and cold. 

What happens after 12 months?

If you aren’t ready to join as a full membership after your first 12 months in our academy there is no need to panic.  You are permitted two years of academy membership if requested.

If after 12 months you are ready for full membership, we will assist you with your application.  If membership is full at the time of application, you will be added to a waiting list.  It is worth noting that graduating from academy membership gains you valuable points on our waiting list system.

Need equipment?

Elliot and his team will provide equipment for each session if you do not currently own your own clubs.  When the time is right, new golf clubs can be purchased from our professional shop.  Our pros will be happy to talk you through any requirements and recommend any equipment you may need as you progress.

What our Academy involves

The Academy here at Royal Winchester offers weekly tuition, access to one of Hampshire’s premier golf courses and all of its facilities, including a newly refurbished clubhouse, which is a superb setting for drinks or a bite to eat after your round.

As a member of our Academy, you will receive a member’s card which gives you access the facilities and entitles you to 15% off food in our restaurant.

There is so much more to golf than just ‘how to swing a golf club’.  Learning how to play the game of golf comes with its own set of rules and etiquette.  Elliot and his team will be hosting workshops throughout the academy to help you understand everything you need to know to become ‘golf course ready’.  By the end of December, our aim is for you know ‘all things golf’ and for you to feel comfortable to use the golf club and all of its facilities.

As an academy member, you will have access to the golf course after 3pm everyday BST and 2pm during the winter months.  Initially whilst Elliot and his team develop an understanding of ability, booking a tee time for the golf course is strictly at the discretion of our pros.

Tuition in the Academy

Our Academy offers a weekly group coaching programme which covers all areas of golf.  The group sessions will run every Saturday from March until  December and are a superb way of learning as well as a great way to encourage social events between other academy members.

Saturday group session times are as follows:

2-3pm

3:15-4:15pm

Sessions will be limited to 8 golfers per session.

Over the course of 12 months, our group coaching clinics will cover:

-       Long game (irons, fairway woods and driver)

-       Short game (chipping, pitching, bunkers and putting)

-       Awkward lies (uphill, downhill, ball above feet and ball below feet)

-       Practice drills to help you improve.

-       Golf fitness (warm up techniques, nutrition)

There are 40 group sessions in total included in your membership of the academy.  These group sessions will be laid on as a service and part of your academy membership.  Worth noting, there is no pressure for you to attend every session.  We understand that busy lifestyles sometimes get in the way.

Individual Tuition

Individual 1-2-1 lessons can be arranged at your own convenience and at discounted price, exclusive to academy members.

30 minutes = £25

60 minutes = £50

There is no limit on how many discounted individual sessions you are allowed to book.
